3. How We Use Your Data

  • To provide the service — displaying your ride history, statistics, and the admin dashboard.
  • To sync across devices — ride records are written to Google Firestore under your account UID.
  • To resolve addresses — GPS coordinates are sent to the OpenStreetMap Nominatim API to convert them to readable street addresses. No account or key is required; no data is stored by Nominatim beyond standard server logs.
  • To improve the app — anonymised crash logs help us identify and fix bugs.
  • To respond to enquiries — contact form submissions are processed by Web3Forms and delivered to our inbox.

We do not use your data for advertising, sell it to third parties, or share it with anyone except as described in this policy.

4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, we process your personal data under the following legal bases:

  • Contract performance — processing your ride data to deliver the app functionality you signed up for.
  • Legitimate interests — crash reporting and app diagnostics to maintain a reliable service.
  • Consent — location access; you can revoke this at any time in your device settings.

5. Google Firebase

We use Google Firebase, a platform provided by Google LLC (USA). Firebase services used include:

  • Firebase Authentication — manages sign-in via Google account.
  • Cloud Firestore — stores your synced ride records in the cloud.
  • Firebase Crashlytics — anonymous crash reporting.
  • Firebase Hosting — hosts the admin dashboard at app.ridetimer.com.

Data stored in Firebase may be transferred to and processed in the United States. Google LLC operates under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. See Firebase's privacy information for full details.

6. Data Storage & Retention

On-device: Ride data is stored in an encrypted local database (Isar) on your device. It stays there until you delete the app or clear app data.

In the cloud: If you use cloud sync, your ride records are stored in Firestore under your user account. You can delete your cloud data at any time from the app's Settings screen.

We retain your account and ride data for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will erase your Firestore data within 30 days.

Under the GDPR and similar laws you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure — ask us to delete your data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Restriction — ask us to limit how we use your data.
  • Portability — receive your data in a portable format (CSV/Excel export is available directly in the app).
  • Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw consent — revoke location permission at any time in your device settings.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@ridetimer.com. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

8. Cookies & Local Storage

Website (ridetimer.com): We use no analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or tracking pixels. The site may use browser local storage to remember PWA preferences. No consent banner is required because no non-essential cookies are set.

Admin dashboard (app.ridetimer.com): Firebase Authentication sets essential session cookies. These are required for sign-in and cannot be disabled without preventing the dashboard from functioning.
